Professor Ranjan Ghosh is a Mentor faculty at IIM Kashipur. He holds a B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering from I.I.T. Kharagpur, an M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University, and a M.S. and D.Sc. in Operations Research from Columbia University. He is presently a Visiting Professor at IIM Calcutta, XLRI Jamshedpur, XIM Bhubaneswar, and Training Institutes of DRDO, Ministry of Defense.

Dr. Ghosh was on the faculty of Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and IIT Kharagpur for thirty five years. At IIM Calcutta, Dr. Ghosh had held many administrative positions, including Director-In-Charge, Chairman-Post Graduate Programme, Chairman-Management Development Programme, Chairman-Operations Management Area, Chairman-Computer Centre, Chairman-Internal Personnel Committee, Vice Chairman-Academic Council, and Membership for two terms of the Board of Governors. He has been the Director of the Goa Institute of Management for one and a half years. While in U.S.A., he worked for three years with International Business Machines (IBM) and Communication Satellite Corporation. He has subsequently been on teaching and research assignments to Columbia University, Cornell University and the University of Iowa in U.S.A. He has been a Visiting Professor at several IIMs, XLRI, XIMB, IIFT, Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand, Ideal Systems in Saudi Arabia, and at the Dubai and Singapore Campuses of the S P Jain Institute of Management.

Dr. Ghosh is the co-author of a book on ‘Theory and Application of Productivity and Efficiency’, and is presently writing two more books ‘Project Appraisal and Management’ and ‘Operations Research’, which will be released during 2013. He has a number of research publications, and has presented papers in many national and international conferences. His Paper entitled ‘Application of Data Envelopment Analysis to Coal Mining’ was adjudged by the Operational Research Society of India as the National Contribution of India at the Triennial Conference, organized by the International Federation of Operational Research Societies at Beijing, China during August 1999.

Dr. Ghosh was the Chairman of the Board of Commercial Education of the Government of West Bengal from 2002 to 2011. He is presently a member of the Governing Body of five Management Institutes, and an Independent Director of one Company. He is on the Editorial Board of several Journals, and has been a member of the Board of Studies of several professional societies and academic institutes. He has also been chairman/member of several expert committees set up by the AICTE and other Agencies of the Government of India. He has wide consulting experience in various fields of management, inter alia, Materials & Inventory Management, Project Appraisal & Management, Operations Research, Lean Engineering, Manpower Assessment, and Risk Analysis. His clientele include Indian Oil Corp., Oil & Natural Gas Corp. , Coal India Ltd., Steel Authority of India Ltd. , Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd., Ordnance Factory Board, Indian Air Force, Garden Reach Ship-Builders & Engineers Ltd., South Eastern Railway, South East Central Railway, Kolkata Port Trust, West Bengal State Electricity Board, Great Eastern Hotel, Hindustan Copper Ltd., Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, MAMC etc.

Dr. Ghosh has conducted more than one hundred and fifty Management Development Programmes and In-House Training Programmes on General Management, Production & Operations Management, Project Management, Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Materials Management, and Management Science. In addition, he has conducted two-dozen Programmes for Central and State Government officers, including a few for officers of the IAS cadre. He has also conducted several times the Advanced Management Programme for top management, which includes a study tour abroad. He has delivered lectures and taught courses in more than forty Academic Institutions and Professional Societies in India and abroad.
