All Data Scientists need to know how to analyze data. Most of them in this domain know how to use one or two of many available software packages as black boxes to get an “output”. They pick up various terminologies and have some elementary knowledge of a few modern technologies. Without a thorough understanding of the statistical theories underlying the methodologies, they may turn into mere technical assistants. This programme is designed to discuss and highlight “why” and “how” various methodologies work or do not work by providing the participants an extensive tour inside the black boxes.

Who Should Attend
The programme is recommended for aspiring Data Scientists in their early to mid-career with a maximum of 5 years of work experience.
Eligibility
An excellent undergraduate degree with a background and interest in Mathematics and Statistics. Preference will be given to those who have worked in the data science domain.
A maximum of 50 participants will be admitted to this programme.

Please Note
The programme fee should be received by the MDP Office, IIM Kashipur on or before the Instalment due date. In case a participant wishes to withdraw from the programme, in that case, the fee will be refunded only if a request is received within 10 days prior to the start of the programme. Also, if a participant leaves the programme in between after the programme started, no fee will be refunded. If the programme gets cancelled, the fee will be refunded to the person/ organization concerned.
All enrollments are subject to review and approval by the programme director. Joining Instructions will be shared with the organization if sponsored or to the participants on selection. Kindly do not make your travel plans unless you receive the offer letter from IIM Kashipur.
Programme Schedule
Classes will be held online on Fridays and Saturdays only every week. 3 sessions of 75 minutes each per day. Total of 75 contact hours.

Programme Director
Prof Malay Bhattacharyya

Malay Bhattacharyya is currently Professor Emeritus at IIM Kashipur. He specializes in Statistics and Operations Research. His academic journey spans over more than 35 years. He superannuated recently as Professor from IIM Bangalore after almost 17 years. Previously, he served as Professor at IIM Lucknow from 1986 to 2004. He obtained a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and Political Science, an MSc (Statistics) from the University of Calcutta, and a BSc (Honours) from Presidency College (now Presidency University) Calcutta.
Prof Alka Arya

Dr. Alka Arya earned her Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. Prior to joining IIM Kashipur, she was a faculty member in the Mathematics Department, Indraprastha College for Women, Delhi University. She was also affiliated as a researcher with IIM Calcutta. Her research interests are data envelopment analysis in crisp/precise, uncertain/imprecise environments like interval, fuzzy, intuitionistic fuzzy, and robust data envelopment analysis, linear and non-linear programming problems, fuzzy optimization, intuitionistic fuzzy optimization, and robust optimization. She has published in peer-reviewed journals like Computers & Industrial Engineering, Soft Computing, International Journal of Fuzzy Systems, International Journal of Operational Research, International Journal of Uncertainty, Fuzziness, and Knowledge-Based Systems, among others. She is a reviewer for Computers & Industrial Engineering, International Journal of Finance and Economics, Management and Decision Economics, and International Journal of Fuzzy Systems.

Assessment & Certification
Periodic evaluations, in the form of exam, quiz, assignment, or other objectives/subjective assessments, are included to keep students engaged and to encourage hands-on learning. Students who will fulfill the evaluations and attendance requirements as prescribed by the institute will receive a certificate from IIM Kashipur, as appropriate.
